A Day in the Life

Starting to work in an airport can be a daunting experience, we caught up with the beautiful Sushma who is one of our new Promotional Consultant’s in Heathrow to see how her first few weeks in travel retail have been.

Q. What made you apply to work for Synergy Promotions?

I really wanted to work in Heathrow to improve my communication skills with many different people. Working with Synergy so far has helped this and has allowed me to learn so much about many different brands and life in the airport.

Q. How have you found the Airside Pass Process and what are the challenges with that?

Although I am still waiting for my airside pass, the person who has been helping me with the process has been very informative and helpful at each stage. Every enquiry I have forwarded has been replied promptly and effectively.

Q. Talk me through a typical day in work?

My typical day at work starts by making sure I am well dressed as we are the face of the brand. When I arrive to work I am informed by the BA or the manager in charge of the tasks and expectations for the day. My focus and activity will vary day by day according to the brand but every day my main focus is always on the customer and making sure I am interacting with them and adding to their shopping experience.

Q. What experience do you have in retail?

I have previously worked in hospitality and clothes retail – which has given me transferable skills to use in this role.

Q. Did you know much about any of the brands you are working with?

I knew some of the brands however in this industry you really get to learn so much about so many brands and understand the remarkable products curated by the brand and the team behind it.

Q. What has been your favourite part of the role so far?

My favourite part of the role has to be gaining brand and product knowledge, especially for fragrance and beauty. Every training I’m coming out being further educated about the art and crafts dedicated to creating what others might just see as a 50 or 100ml bottles. The care given and meticulous ingredients and process chose to articulate one single product whether it be fragrance, whiskey or foundation is quite mind-blowing.

Q. Have you spotted anyone famous travelling through Heathrow yet?

Unfortunately not yet – but I am hoping to see Rihanna passing through now she lives in London.

Q. What languages do you speak?

I speak English, Nepalese and have a minor understanding of Hindi.

Q. What are your favourite things to do outside of work?

Travelling is something I have grown fond of over the years, a change of scenario is always a welcome break. I enjoy staying quite active, so physical activities are something I like to do on a daily basis. And whenever the weather is too bad, a good Netflix series is always waiting for me.
